Bolesław Chrobry Commemorated on Silver Collectibles by the Mint of Poland

29 april 2025

A thousand years ago, Poland crowned its first king – a pivotal moment in national history, now immortalized in silver and gold. To honor the millennium of Bolesław the Brave’s (Bolesław Chrobry) coronation, the Mint of Poland, a long-standing guardian of national heritage, has released a distinguished series of commemorative medals. Both the gold and silver editions are not only masterfully crafted numismatic works, but also a proud tribute to Poland’s origins and its first monarch.

The debut gold medal, struck from one ounce of pure gold, launched in April to great acclaim. The limited mintage of just 100 pieces sold out in under two weeks. The medal blends contemporary design with historical depth: the reverse features a modern interpretation of King Bolesław’s likeness, while the obverse presents a faithful replica of the “PRINCES POLONIE” denarius – the first coin bearing the name of Poland, originally issued during his reign.

Following the success of the gold release, the Mint of Poland has introduced a silver version of the collectible. Its reverse portrays a proud and dignified Bolesław the Brave, adorned with a gold crown and accented with red elements symbolizing the strength and resilience of the young Polish state. The obverse replicates the historic denarius with exceptional precision.

Our silver collectible – like its gold counterpart – is not merely a tribute to Poland’s first king. It tells a story of heritage, embodied in silver, color, and intricate detail. It’s proof that tradition and modernity can coexist, creating something truly extraordinary – says Anna Ziętek, Director of Marketing and Brand Communications at the Mint of Poland. Thanks to our passionate team and outstanding craftsmanship, we’ve created more than a collectible – we’ve created a small work of art.

The Bolesław the Brave series continues the Mint of Poland’s longstanding mission to honor iconic historical figures. In recent years, this has included tributes to General Kazimierz Pułaski — a hero of both Polish and American history - and Józef Bem, a leader in the November Uprising and a symbol of Polish-Hungarian brotherhood.

Founded in 1766, the Mint of Poland has played a vital role in commemorating national history and shaping Polish identity. Leveraging cutting-edge technologies and its own advanced production facilities, the Mint sets global benchmarks in the field of numismatics.

The silver collectible featuring Bolesław the Brave is now available via the Mint of Poland’s online store and select retail locations.
