A new app and a chosen card – two alternative ways to provide proof of season ticket purchase thanks to another joint implementation of the Mint of Poland and Mastercard in Bydgoszcz

3 november 2021

Public transport users in Bydgoszcz are the first ones in Poland to be able to prove they have purchased a season ticket in two ways – the new mobile app “Mint Mobile Bydgoszcz” or one of three ID cards assigned to the mobile card wallet (a travelcard, an electronic student ID or a bank card). The app is already available on AppStore and soon will also be available on Google Play.

Poland’s first two-way season ticket purchase scheme

The joint implementation of the Mint of Poland and Mastercard is a market innovation that will potentially save season ticket holders a lot of stress during ticket inspection. Thanks to the new app, now they will always have an alternative – all season tickets bought in the Mint of Poland’s mobile app will be automatically stored on the chosen card assigned to the mobile wallet on their phone.

What’s more, if the passenger buys a season ticket via another sales channel, e.g. in a traditional vending machine or online via the Bydgoszcz Municipal Card (BKM) passenger portal, that is stored on any card (the BKM travelcard, a contactless payment card or an electronic student ID), the ticket may also be shown to the ticket inspector on the “Mint Mobile Bydgoszcz” app. Provided that the chosen card was previously added to the mobile wallet on the app.

How to use the new app?

To start using the innovation launched by the Mint of Poland and Mastercard, the passenger needs first to download the app “Mint Mobile Bydgoszcz” from Google Play or App Store and set up an account.

The next step is the registration and the two-factor authentication of the user (a photo of the ID and a selfie), as required by law for all online payments.

The last step is adding a card to the mobile wallet of the account, whereby one of the following three cards can be used: a contactless payment card, the BKM travelcard or an electronic student ID card. After buying a new season ticket, this chosen card may then serve as proof of purchase as an alternative to the app during ticket inspection, e.g. when the passenger forgets to take the phone or when the phone stops working. It is a perfect fallback that can save them a lot of stress, time and money during their daily commute to and from work, school or university.
