The artwork of Zdzisław Beksiński once again featured on coins minted by Mennica Polska
Mennica Polska is launching its second series of silver coins featuring reproductions of selected works by Zdzisław Beksiński. Once again, this unique combination of art and numismatics is being sponsored by the Historical Museum in Sanok, the sole copyright holder and custodian of this outstanding artist's gallery. The premiere of the first coin is behind us, and its entire mintage has been sold out.
Mennica Polska continues to feature images by the artist considered an icon of global surrealism on its coins. Following the spectacular reception of the first, best-selling series, it is time for the next one, which will consist of five silver coins decorated on the reverse with works by Zdzisław Beksiński. What makes this edition unique and the coins desirable numismatic items for both collectors and investors is its strictly limited mintage of only one thousand pieces.
The Master's work captured in silver
The collection will be opened with a coin presenting a reproduction of the work with catalog number AE73, depicting a crawling figure against the backdrop of a burning city. This work, maintained in the dark aesthetics typical of Beksiński's work, permeated with an atmosphere of mystery and horror, prompts reflection on transience and transcendence.
"We are extremely proud that, using our know-how and advanced technological capabilities, we can once again reproduce in silver the work of such an outstanding artist as Zdzisław Beksiński. The first release of coins with reproductions of his works met with enormous interest, which is excellent proof that many recipients are looking for new forms of engaging with culture, including those at the intersection of art and numismatics. The production of the second series is therefore a natural continuation of this need and a response to the voice of collectors", said Katarzyna Budnicka-Filipiuk, President of the Management Board of Mennica Polska.
The launch of the first coin in the second series took place on February 5 this year, and the entire stock sold out on the same day.
The choice of works in collectors' hands
The choice of themes that will appear on the reverse of each coin in this series was decided by the votes of nearly 700 collectors and numismatics enthusiasts.
The next coins will feature the paintings AJ76, AC86, AA80, and AH78 – these, along with the previously mentioned AE73, received the most votes in a survey organized by Mennica Polska.
The entire series will be linked by a universal obverse featuring an image of the artist in his studio, focusing attention on the creator and his mysterious inner world.
The collection is complemented by a unique display case designed to harmoniously match the characteristic, dark atmosphere of the Master's work. It is not only a protection for the coins, but also a sophisticated form of presentation.
Continuation of the best-selling series
Mennica Polska has the exclusive right to mint coins with reproductions of Zdzisław Beksiński's works. Digital printing and microprinting were used to faithfully reproduce the details of his works. In cooperation with the Historical Museum in Sanok, the owner of the copyright to the artist's works, a total of three series of coins will be created.
The first collection includes five silver coins featuring paintings by this world-class artist, each in a limited edition of 700 pieces. “Figure,” “Ballerina,” and “Hamlet” premiered in 2024, while ‘Cathedral’ and “Tram” premiered in 2025. Each coin was met with enormous interest from collectors and sold out very quickly.
