Mint of Poland has issued a new collection of coins denominated in euros. The ‘City Hall Clocks’ series is dedicated to one of the most iconic symbols of European cities – monumental clocks that attract travelers from around the world. This project was realized in cooperation with the Central Bank of Malta, marking the next stage of the company’s international expansion strategy.

A Journey Through European Capitals in Numismatic Form

The “City Hall Clocks” collection includes seven coins featuring the distinctive clocks of Prague, London, Gdańsk, Bern, Padua, Venice, and Valletta. Each coin faithfully captures not only the architectural details of these historic structures but also preserves the rich history and traditions that have accumulated around them over centuries.

The first coin in the series – dedicated to the capital of the Czech Republic – will be available in Mint of Poland’s online store starting June 17. The Prague Astronomical Clock (Orloj) is one of the oldest still-functioning astronomical clocks in the world, dating back to the Middle Ages. Its uniqueness lies not only in its precise timekeeping but also in its rich symbolism, reflecting the cycles of life, changing seasons, and the movement of celestial bodies. The clock’s exceptional design is thanks to the artistic concept of Czech painter Josef Mánes, who designed its dial in the 19th century. The spectacular hourly procession of the apostle figurines has attracted tourists for generations, making the Orloj one of Prague’s most visited attractions.

The ‘City Hall Clocks’ series is Mint of Poland’s second coin collection issued in euro denomination. The previous series (‘Maiolica’), inspired by the works of Raphael Sanzio and scenes from Italian court life, was released to collectors earlier this month.

The ‘City Hall Clocks’ series exemplifies projects inspired by European art and culture presented in an extraordinary way. It is worth noting that Mint of Poland is currently among the world’s most technologically advanced mints. In 2024, at the World Money Fair, it showcased the world’s first flying coin (UFO MP-1766). This year’s edition featured a fairy-tale themed exhibition centered on the ‘Grimm’s Fairy Tales Reimagined’ series, combining tradition with modernity through contemporary interpretations of classic stories.
