Polish Minting Art Among the World’s Finest
According to the decision of the international jury of the Coin of the Year 2025 competition – composed of 100 numismatic industry experts – 100 coins from 38 countries qualified for the finals, with ten nominated in each of the ten categories. Among them are four coins produced by the Mint of Poland.
In the ‘Most Innovative Coin’ category, the ‘UFO MP-1766’ coin was once again recognized. It is the world’s first coin that levitates using a hidden motor and a magnetic levitation system. The project generated significant buzz during the World Money Fair 2024 and received an award at the Mint Directors Conference 2025 in Cape Town.
In the ‘Most Inspirational Coin’ category, two coins produced by the Mint of Poland were nominated. The first is the ‘Coin of the Future – Through the Eyes of a Child’, designed by 6-year-old Filip from Skierniewice as part of a nationwide contest. It is the first coin in the history of the Mint of Poland designed by a child. All proceeds from its sale are donated to the “Zdążyć z pomocą” Foundation for Children.
The second nominee in this category is the silver coin with amber titled ‘In Memory of the Ulma Family’ , produced by the Mint of Poland and issued by the National Bank of Poland (NBP). The coin pays tribute to the Ulma family, who sacrificed their lives during World War II while saving Jewish people. The project’s powerful symbolism and emotional depth were highly praised by the jury.
In the ‘Most Artistic Coin’ category, recognition was given to the silver 10-zloty coin titled ‘In Memory of the Prisoners of Warsaw’s Pawiak Prison’, also produced by the Mint of Poland and issued by NBP. Its minimalist graphic design and symbolic interpretation of the theme captured the jury’s attention, who commended its artistic impact and high-quality craftsmanship.
