The Mint of Poland Strikes Its First Coin Designed by a Child
For the first time in its history, the Mint of Poland has struck a coin designed by a young artist. The design comes from 6-year-old Filip from Skierniewice, the winner of the "Through a Child's Eyes" competition. A total of 300 pieces of this unique coin will go on sale starting December 5. All proceeds from its sale will be donated by the Mint of Poland to the "Zdążyć z Pomocą".
The Mint of Poland organized a competition titled "The Future Through a Child's Eyes" for designing a coin. Participants were children from Kindergarten No. 14 in Płock, who expressed their vision of the future through drawings. The winning design by Filip depicts a robot on the Moon waving toward Earth. The young artist's creation was faithfully adapted into the coin’s design and struck in pure silver.
– The primary idea behind the competition was to give children a voice. We wanted the youngest creators to show us their vision of the future. The results exceeded our wildest expectations. The creativity of these young artists pleasantly surprised us, and Filip's design reminded us that the future belongs to children, said Katarzyna Budnicka-Filipiuk, CEO of the Mint of Poland. We also wanted this initiative to have a deeper meaning – from children, for children. That’s why the proceeds from the coin’s sale will be donated to the "Zdążyć z Pomocą" Foundation for Children, she added.
In collaboration with the Mint of Poland's experts, the coin was struck in pure silver without altering the young artist's vision.
