The Mint of Poland proudly presents a series dedicated to the most beautiful Polish love stories. The collection shows famous lovers whose feelings towards each other are great examples of deep and profound love.
The inspiration for the third coin in this series was the love story of the great French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte and the Countess Marie Walewska. This monetary work of art was created with highest attention to detail. The use of an advanced digital printing technique allowed a precise reproduction of Napoleon’s and Marie’s multi-colored images. This coin is a combination of a rich minting tradition and modernity embedded in a unique theme.
Several features are characteristic for the series – an oval shape of coins, SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS decorating their surfaces as well as outstanding presentation cases in the shape of a heart.
The obverse presents the Palace in Walewice, which according to a legend the French Emperor Napoleon visited twice. The Palace is the birthplace of Marie’s and Napoleon’s offspring – Alexandre Joseph Colonna–Walewski . On the left side - the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Above an inscription: 1 DOLLAR (face value). Inscriptions on the bottom along the rim: ELIZABETH II and NIUE ISLAND (issuer), 2014 (year of issue), Mint mark: m/w (mint mark) and Ag 999 (alloy).
Images of Napoleon and Marie Walewska surrounded by decorative motifs. Inscription below: MARIA WALEWSKA & NAPOLEON BONAPARTE. Central part of the coin decorated with a SWAROVSKI ELEMENT.
