Juicy colors and stark contrast let us see even the tiniest details of their plumage! Specially designed presentation case featuring these lovely birds forms with the coin a coherent, harmonious whole.
European bee-eaters (Merops apiaster) most willingly live in open sunlit areas of meadows, fields and pastures with high landform diversity. They nest in dens located in sandy and earthen scarps. The representatives of this species are excellent hunters, not afraid of being stung by a bee or a wasp. European bee-eaters breed in Europe, mostly in the warmer southern parts. Despite not being currently considered threatened with extinction, the species is protected by the Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats.
In the central part of the coin – effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Below it– hallmark: Ag 999. Right-hand – mint mark: m/w. Along the rim – inscriptions: ELIZABETH II, NIUE ISLAND (issuer), 1 DOLLAR (face value), 2015 (year of issue).
In the central part of the coin – multi-colored images of the European bee-eater (on a branch and in mid-flight). Along the rim – inscriptions: THE FASCINATING WORLD OF BIRDS (name of the series), Żołna zwyczajna/Merops apiaster (name of the coin in Polish and Latin). In the background – stylized decorative surface: leaves and vines.
