The domestic Bengal cat is the fourth or subsequent generation of a wild leopard cat. This gorgeous and intelligent feline is an inquisitive and entertaining companion. The Latin name (bengalensis) of the species comes from the place of finding the first specimen that was noticed when it was swimming in the Bay of Bengal. In Chinese tradition wild Bengal cats called cash cats (in Chinese "chinch`ien mao") are considered to be the animals bringing good luck and success. Their spotted fur and rosettes resemble Chinese coins.
