Description

“Family Traditions of Slavs” is a series of beautiful silver coins devoted to the main ceremonies of the Slavic culture. Each coin presents a custom and symbol characteristic for an important period in the life of Slavs. The issuer of the series is the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus and the producer and distributor the Mint of Poland. Till now three coins appeared: “The Wedding”, “Housewarming” and “Baptism.”
 

"Baptism" – is the third silver collector’s coin of the series “Family Traditions of Slavs”. It appeared after “The Wedding” and “Housewarming” and all of them present beautiful elements of the culture and customs of the Slavic nations. The interesting design of the coin is connected with the tradition of baptizing. At present baptism is a religious ritual practiced in many churches. It was also practiced by primeval Slavs who believed in a cleansing power of water (Midsummer Eve rituals). The symbols presented on the coin are a reflection of traditions connected with baptism.

  1. In the center – an image of a stork standing on a semi-circular decorative composition symbolizing the Earth as a bread-winner on which there are symbols of family, motherhood, children and the sun
  2. the year of issue (2009) and the face value: 20 РУБЛЁЎ (20 Rubles)
  3. in the upper part in a semi-circular inscription „РЭСПУБЛІКА БЕЛАРУСЬ” (The Republic of Belarus).

  1. In the center, against the ornament – an image of a child dressed for baptizing over a baptismal font; on the child’s shirt – an image of a cross filled with pad print in a gold color
  2. In the upper part – two angels and a dove (good guardians watching over the child)
  3. At the bottom, a semi-circular inscription „ХРЭСЬБІНЫ” (Baptism).
