The Mint of Poland struck medals for the Men’s EHF EURO 2016

15 january 2016

The 2016 edition of the EHF European Men's Handball Championship gets ready for the launch! This year, the EHF Tournament is taking place in Poland. Medals for the best teams were struck at the Mint of Poland – one of the most technologically advanced minting facilities in the world.

These beautiful medals were designed by Artur Gosiewski, the creator of this year’s EHF visual identity. Their irregular shape, along with the logotype of the Men’s EHF EURO 2016, stands for dynamism, energy, team spirit, challenge and excitement. The reverse features an outline of the map of Poland with four host cities and the region of Lesser Poland marked on it.

As already said, the medals were manufactured at the Mint of Poland. The company made its best endeavors to ensure the upmost quality of the awards. This is why each of them was struck with meticulous attention to detail. In terms of technical specification, the tombac tokens are 8 cm in diameter, and weight 250 g. First place laurels are additionally covered with 24-karat gold, whereas the medals for runner-ups are coated with .999-sterling silver.

In addition to this, the Mint of Poland has also struck distinctions for the fourth-place national handball squad. To honor their efforts, all participants of the Championship will receive commemorative medals housed in elegant presentation cases.

The EHF European Men’s Handball Championship is to be held between 15th and 31th of January 2016 in four Polish cities – Gdańsk, Katowice, Kraków and Wrocław. The competition for supremacy in the Old Continent will gather 16 national teams, including Poland – the host of the tournament. It will be a major handball event ever organized in the country on the Vistula river. Since 1994, the European Men's Handball Championship takes place every two years.
